Мета вивчення дисципліни: creation of favorable conditions for the personal development of the personality of students in the process of forming an active civic position and a sense of responsibility in society. The course has the potential to become a factor in the reconciliation of different models of historical memory, a means of constructive social dialogue about past and present problems of social development, integration and consolidation of Ukrainian society. This discipline stimulates students' development of critical thinking and analysis and adequate evaluation of historical and cultural information, motivation and self-identification of the individual based on knowledge of the history, cultural and scientific heritage of society.
Завдання: The study of the academic discipline involves the formation of the necessary competencies in students: - general competences: Ability to learn and master modern knowledge; The ability to realize one's rights and responsibilities as a member of society, to be aware of the values of civil (free democratic) society and the need for its sustainable development, the rule of law, the rights and freedoms of a person and a citizen in Ukraine; The ability to preserve and multiply moral, cultural, scientific values and achievements of society based on understanding the history and patterns of development of the subject area, its place in the general system of knowledge about nature and society and in the development of society, technology and technologies, to use various types and forms of motor activity for active recreation and leading a healthy lifestyle.
Learning outcomes: - a system of knowledge about particular aspects of the history and culture of Ukraine and practical skills to work with a historical source; - knowledge of problematic, debatable and irritating pages of Ukrainian history; - acquaintance with the latest views of historians and researchers on the debating issues of Ukrainian history. - ability to study independently the problematic issues of the history of Ukraine, turning to the primary sources; - formation of active civic position and sense of responsibility in society; - students understanding of the importance of reconciling different models of historical memory, constructive public dialogue about the past and present problems of social development, integration and consolidation of Ukrainian society; - skills of working historiography on particular problems of Ukrainian history; - critical thinking and analysis skills and adequate assessment of historical and cultural information; - understanding the peculiarities of the formation of chemical science in Ukraine; - knowledge of outstanding Ukrainian chemists and their achievements in the chemical industry.

Summary of the subject: Territory, composition and identity of the population of Ukrainian lands in historical retrospect The Genesis of Ukrainian Statemaking in the Middle Ages and Early Modern Time Controversial issues of Ukrainian state-building. Cultural Processes in the Ukrainian Lands in the New Age. The symbolic space of the city and its culture. History of science and technical education in Ukrainian lands.
Опис: Lecture 1. Territory composition and identity of the population of Ukrainian lands in historical retrospect 1.1. The territory and composition of the population of Ukrainian lands from ancient times to the end of the 18th century. 1.2. Ethnic processes and formation of the national territory of Ukraine in the 19th-20th centuries. 1.3. Formation of identity on Ukrainian lands from early modern society to the modern Ukrainian nation. Lecture 2. Genesis of Ukrainian state formation in the Middle Ages and early modern times 2.1. Rus-Ukraine, Galicia-Volyn kingdom in the system of relations between medieval states of the Central European region. 2.2. The Cossack state Zaporizhzhya troops between the West and the East - the reception of other people's achievements and their own experience of creating a state. Lecture 3. Controversial issues of Ukrainian state formation The formation of the Ukrainian state in the XX century. 3.3. In search of an effective model of state formation: formats of Ukrainian statehood during the National Revolution of 1917-1921. 3.4. The Soviet model of the Ukrainian state: the essence, purpose and consequences of the implementation of the Soviet project. 3.5. Realization of Ukrainian statehood at the end of the 20th - the beginning of the 21st century: causes of difficulties and future prospects. Lecture 4. Man and resistance to totalitarian regimes in the 20th century. 4.1 Man in the conditions of the struggle of totalitarian regimes: Stalinist terror, the Nazi regime, deportations, the Vistula campaign. 4.2. Ukrainian national liberation movement during the Second World War and in the postwar years. 4.3. De-Stalinization, the sixties, dissidents and the human rights movement (late 1950s - 1980s). Lecture 5. Ukrainian lands as part of the European multicultural space in the X-XIX centuries. 5.1. The influence of Christianity on historical and cultural processes in the lands of Rus' of Ukraine in the X-XIII centuries. 5.2. In the orbit of the European world: Renaissance and Baroque culture in Ukrainian lands. 5.3. Classicism, romanticism, realism and modernism in Ukrainian culture of the 19th-early 20th centuries: achievements in literature, theater, architecture and art. Lecture 6. Cultural processes on Ukrainian lands in the modern era. 6.1 Ukrainian culture during the National Revolution of 1917-1921. 6.2. Cultural processes in Western Ukrainian lands in the interwar period (1923-1939). 6.3. The sphere of culture in Soviet Ukraine: from Ukrainization to socialist realism. 6.4. Cultural process in modern Ukraine: main achievements and trends. Lecture 7. The symbolic space of the city and its culture 7.1. Early forms of urban culture in Ukrainian lands. 7.2. Cultural and ethnic diversity of the medieval and early modern city. The free royal city of Lviv on the map of Central and Eastern Europe. 7.3. Sociocultural space of imperial cities. 7.4. Visions of the city and its space in the XX-XXI centuries. 7.5. The village as a mobilization resource of Ukrainianness. Lecture 8. History of science and technical education in Ukrainian lands 8.1. Progress of science and technology in Ukrainian lands (from the 19th century to the present day). 8.2. From the Higher Technical Academy to the National University: the history of the Lviv Polytechnic. 8.3. Historical sketch of the publishing and printing business
Assessment methods and criteria: 100-point rating: current control - 50 points (polls. presentations, oral and written answers), including creative work "History of my family"; final control - 50 points (exam).
Критерії оцінювання результатів навчання: Semester assessment (SO) of students' knowledge is carried out based on the total number of points received based on the results of the current control (PC) and the performance of the control measure (KZ).
Порядок та критерії виставляння балів та оцінок: 100–88 points – (“excellent”) is awarded for a high level of knowledge (some inaccuracies are allowed) of the educational material of the component contained in the main and additional recommended literary sources, the ability to analyze the phenomena being studied in their interrelationship and development, clearly, succinctly, logically, consistently answer the questions, the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 87–71 points – (“good”) is awarded for a generally correct understanding of the educational material of the component, including calculations, reasoned answers to the questions posed, which, however, contain certain (insignificant) shortcomings, for the ability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical tasks; 70 – 50 points – (“satisfactory”) awarded for weak knowledge of the component’s educational material, inaccurate or poorly reasoned answers, with a violation of the sequence of presentation, for weak application of theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 49-26 points - ("not certified" with the possibility of retaking the semester control) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to apply theoretical provisions when solving practical problems; 25-00 points - ("unsatisfactory" with mandatory re-study) is awarded for ignorance of a significant part of the educational material of the component, significant errors in answering questions, inability to navigate when solving practical problems, ignorance of the main fundamental provisions.
