Fundamentals of Structural Mechanics

Major: Architecture and Town Planning
Code of subject: 6.191.00.O.077
Credits: 6.00
Department: Bridges and Structural Mechanics
Lecturer: associate professor: Shynder Valentyn
Semester: 3 семестр
Mode of study: денна
Learning outcomes: know the main principles and methods of theoretical mechanics, strength of materials and structural mechanics that are necessary for static calculation of structures on action external force; • be able to perform kinematic analysis of the systems; explore the balance of forces that are acting on the structure; determine efforts in the statically defined systems; validate the strength of individual elements of the building; • be aware of finding the efforts in statically defined systems.
Required prior and related subjects: • High Mathematics (linear algebra, analytic geometry, mathematical analysis, derivatives and integrals of functions); • Physics (mechanics); • Theoretical mechanics (statics, kinematics, dynamics).
Summary of the subject: Kinematic analysis of rod systems. Statics. Determination of the reactions of supports. Study materials in tension and compression. The elastic properties of building materials and evaluation of the bearing capacity of structures. Calculation of statically defined systems (determination of internal efforts and building diagrams). Determination of displacements and calculation of statically indeterminate rod systems.
Assessment methods and criteria: calculated work, oral examination, test (30%) • final control: written-oral form (70%)
