Learning outcomes: By the end of the study, learners are expected to: • comprehend the basic principles of project management of creating information systems of aviation systems and complexes; • know the basic procedures for project management at all stages of design; • know and can develop the structure of the project management plan to create an aviation information system, be able to create a project schedule, to identify, allocate and optimize resources; • know the basic requirements to aviation data; requirements, particularities and approaches to the development of databases in aviation information systems; • know the composition and specific features of forming requirements of different levels to the aviation information system and be aware of the validation procedure, i.e. checking the completeness and correctness of the requirements; • know the basic requirements to the process of development of multifunctional software for airborne and ground-based aviation information systems and complexes according to current standards DO - 178C and DO - 278A; • know and be able to apply regulatory requirements to the processes of creating, verifying and certifying hardware and software of aviation information systems; • know the content and requirements to the documentation of the project of creating aviation information systems and complexes; • be able to present results of DB design and to substantiate it while discussing them with other students.

Summary of the subject: Aviation information systems and complexes (AISC). Project life cycle, basic processes and procedures of AlSC project management and regulatory documents for these processes. Development of the project management plan, organization of execution monitoring. Management of planning processes for the development of AlSC hardware and software (in accordance with DO - 254, DO - 178c and DO - 278a). Data requirements in AlSC. Management of the requirements forming for AlSC. Requirements for the structure of databases of aircraft operators. Recommended data models for AlSC. Determination of logical scheme of work execution for AlSC development and critical success factors. Conceptual evaluation of operations duration and cost. Development of a basic project cost plan. Development of a project schedule and timetable. Managing project timelines. Estimation of resources and duration of operations. Scheduling management organization. Planning and management of human resources and project communications. Formation and organization of project configuration management. Project feasibility study. Quality planning. The process of quality assurance and quality control. Development of a quality assurance plan and procedures. Analysis and management of the project risks. Analysis and ensuring the safety of the AISC, hazard assessment. Project risk control. Quality assurance plans and quality assurance activities for systems of different assurance levels. Basic technical inspections and audits. Project management at the AlSC validation, verification and certification stages. Verification methods. Planning of AlSC verification according to DO - 254, DO - 178C and DO - 278A. Procedures and results of verification. Basic stages and procedures of certification. Qualification of tools for automating the processes of software and hardware design and verification. Certification of AlSC documentation
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control: task reports, oral interviewing, current testing – 44 points (44 %): practical works execution and defence - 30 points; tests - 14 points • Final control: control procedure, graded test – control testing, oral interviewing - 56 points
