Learning outcomes: • know basic concepts of reliability theory of telecommunication systems and networks; • know methods and ways of improvement the reliability of telecommunication systems and networks and be able to make their optimal choice; • know and be able to use modern software tools to make the reliability analysis of telecommunication systems and networks; • know types of maintenance of telecommunication systems and networks and be able to carry out their analysis and selection for a particular telecommunication system or network; • be able to work with the software package (RAM Commander) to estimate the reliability; • be able to estimate the safety of complex systems, using methods of FMEA and FMCEA analysis; • know the methods of evaluating the reliability of non-reserved, reserved, renewable and non-renewable telecommunication systems and networks; • be able to estimate the reliability of telecommunication systems and networks, including account controls and diagnostics using modern software.

Summary of the subject: Contents and main tasks of discipline. Regulatory framework of reliability insurance. Basic concepts of reliability theory. Reliability design of telecommunication systems. Reliability prediction of telecommunication systems. Reliability block diagrams of complex systems. Modern methods of bringing in structural redundancy. Reliability analysis of telecommunication systems based on the fault tree analysis (FTA). Maintenance of telecommunication systems. Automated tools for reliability design of the telecommunication systems. Software reliability of complex systems. Reliability of hardware and software systems. Complex systems safety and risk estimation.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control: reports on laboratory works, current knowledge tests (40%); • Summary control: control examination in written-oral form (60%).
