Learning outcomes: As a result of study of the module a student must: a) to know physical bases and mathematical description of the electromagnetic field and processes of wave in it; b) to know the features of distribution of waves in isotropic and gyrotropic mediums, in transmission lines, on the routes of radio-frequency spectral lines of different frequency bands, and the features of oscillatory process in resonance structures; с) to know the basic laws of radiation process.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites: physics; further mathematics (mathematical analysis, differential equations, equations of mathematical physics); fundamentals of circuit theory. Co-requisites: signals and processes in electronics
Summary of the subject: System of the electromagnetic field equations; field boundary conditions; static and stationary fields; monochromatic electromagnetic field. Plane waves and their distribution at the isotropic and gyrotropic mediums; reflection and transmission of wave at boundary between mediums. Radiation of electromagnetic waves; field of the point dipoles. Types of waves in the transmission lines; metallic waveguides; coaxial line; structures with a surface wave. Cavity resonators. Diffraction of electromagnetic waves. Distribution of surface and spatial radio waves in Earth atmosphere.
Assessment methods and criteria: • Current control (40%): verbal questioning, preparation of reports on the laboratory works; • Final control (60 %, semestrial examination): testing
