Learning outcomes: As a result of studying the academic discipline, the student must be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes: knowledge and understanding of scientific principles and laws on which modern methods of spectroscopic research of biological and medical objects are based, primarily the most interesting objects for biology - proteins and nucleic acids; the ability to use acquired knowledge and skills in spectroscopic research of biological and medical objects in practice; the ability to use scientific literature, which is devoted to the problems of the educational discipline; the ability to independently analyze various spectra of biological and medical objects; the ability to draw conclusions independently.

Summary of the subject: Introduction to the course. Absorption spectrophotometry. Law
Bouguer-Lambert. Electronic structure of DNA and individual
nucleotides and their absorption spectra. Absorption spectra of aromatic amino acids and proteins. Fluorescence, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy. IR and Raman spectroscopy of polypeptides and proteins. Study of the secondary structure of proteins. IR and CR spectroscopy of nucleic acids. Vibrational spectra. Characteristic oscillations of the amide group. Fluorescence spectroscopy. Measurement of excitation and fluorescence spectra. Fluorescence parameters.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current control: Performances in practical classes, problem solving, test tasks.
Final control: Exam (written and oral components).
