Learning outcomes: By the end of the study, learners are expected to be able to: - advanced knowledge in Biological and Behavioural Biometrics; - understand fundamentals of theory and scientific methods relevant for design, development and operation of biometric access control systems; - understand fundamentals of in new fields of IT-security systems; - analyzing problems in biometrics; - analyzing existing theories, methods and interpretations in the field of biometrics and working independently on solving theoretical and practical problems.
Required prior and related subjects: Prerequisites:Informatics in Biomedical Engineering. Corequisites: Methods of Biomedical Information Processing.
Summary of the subject: A general overview of the methods of personal biometric identification. Principles of functioning of the system of biometric identification. Biometric identification using fingerprints. Identification based on the geometry of the eye. Voice identification. Identification by face parameters. Biometric identification by ear parameters. Biometric identification by handwriting. Biometric identification by keyboard. Biometric identification by palm geometry. Biometric identification by DNA. Examples of biometric identification systems.
Assessment methods and criteria: Current control: laboratory experiments and their defence Final control: exam The distribution of points according to a 100-point scale: Current control (CC)-30 points, including: Classroom work (Practical experiments and reports) -20 points; Self-study (Preparing and defence of practical works) – 10 points. Exam -70 points, including: Written test -55 points; Oral -15 points.
