Learning outcomes: The aim of the discipline "Main trends in modern design" is to study the theoretical and practical aspects of modern design culture, influencing the processes of formation and functioning of design in different systems of subject-spatial and media environment. Studying the course provides students with an understanding of the phenomena and processes occurring in design over the past three decades; forms an idea of the activities of key design studios and personalities in various fields of design. As a result of studying the discipline, the student must be able to demonstrate the following learning outcomes: 1. Understand the purpose and place of the course "Basic trends in modern design" in the general system of professional training of designers; 2. Know the basic paradigms of modern design culture and understand the theoretical and practical aspects of design in various fields of design; 3. Understand the essence of globalization as a form of cultural interaction in modern design development and understand the role of tradition as a stylistic category in modern design. 4. Understand the essence of the concept of sustainable development in modern design practice; 5. Be able to analyze works of modern design in the context of futurodesign, ecodesign, performative design; critical design; synthesis of technology and crafts. 6. Be able to solve various project problems, think innovatively and work creatively with the justification of artistic and constructive design in projects of communicative, subject-environment and multimedia design.

Summary of the subject: The course "Main trends in the development of modern design" is designed for one semester of study, covers a total of 180 hours and structurally includes lectures and practical classes, work on a course project and independent work. The theoretical part of the course covers the philosophical and cultural aspects of design, identifies the main trends in design development from the 1990s to the present day. The course is focused on an overview of the most relevant areas, phenomena and events in modern design. Students gain an understanding of modern design in the context of noosphere thinking; futuristic design is considered as a direction of project philosophy; problems of globalization and localization in design; synthesis of technologies and handicraft production; ecological tendencies of modern design culture, as well as the current state and prospects of collection design development in various fields. In the practical part of the course the problem of forming the concept of specific design development in the field of subject-spatial design or design of visual communications with presentation video, with the possibility of its further presentation as a startup or completed project for a professional competition.
Assessment methods and criteria: During the semester, a student can get up to 50 points (40 points - current testing in the VNS, 10 - for individual assignments in practical classes). On the exam - a maximum of 50 points. To be admitted to the exam, a student must score at least 25 points based on the results of the current control. The sum of points is a semester grade.

Summary of the subject: The course "The main trends in the development of modern design" (course project) is designed for one semester of study, in general, covers 90 hours and structurally includes practical classes (30 hours), and independent work. Discipline forms a holistic idea of the development of modern design, concepts and innovations in various spheres of design; gives an understanding of the development of the material and technical base and design tools. Different scenarios of development of design culture, utilitarian and performative concepts are considered, specific phenomena of design practices in communicative, subject-spatial and digital environment are analyzed. In the practical part of the course, the problem of forming a conception of specific design development in the field of subject-spatial design or design of visual communications with presentation video support, with the possibility of its further presentation as a startup or completed project for a professional competition.
Assessment methods and criteria: The course project involves the presentation and defense of the work and is estimated at 100 points.
