Мета вивчення дисципліни: The educational discipline "Design of printed publications" is one of the selective disciplines of professional training of students of the first (bachelor's) level of higher education, specialty "Design". The purpose of teaching the discipline is professional training and acquaintance of students with the theoretical and practical foundations of publishing design, with historical aspects in the field of design of printed publications, with the main ways of using compositional, graphic and visual aids and typesetting and typographical elements when working on the design of various types of printed publications. As a result of learning the course, students should understand the role of design and the designer in publishing processes, know the basic concepts and methods of working on the design of the publication, possess professional terminology
Завдання: The study of an academic discipline involves the formation and development of students' competencies: Integral competence – The ability to solve complex specialized tasks and practical problems in the field of design, or in the learning process, which involves the application of certain design theories and methods and is characterized by the complexity and uncertainty of conditions. Professional competences: FCS2.1. The ability to conduct pre-project studies and analyze analogs of the design solution. FCS2.2. Ability to develop several variants of conceptual solutions. FCS2.3. Ability to design advertising products: design of sign systems for visual communications, packaging, printed products, outdoor advertising media. FCS2.4. Ability to perform 2D and 3D models for printing and multimedia space.
Learning outcomes: As a result of studying the academic discipline, the student must be able to demonstrate the following program learning outcomes: 1. understand the purpose and place of the course "Design of printed publications" in the general system of professional training of a designer; 2. know the specifics of using design tools and methods in the process of designing a printed publication; 3. know the history of the book's development; classification of printed products, types of book publications; 4. know the basic principles and stages of book design; the main structural elements of the book, to understand their practical and architectural role in the structure of the publication; compositional means and their use in the book design process; 5. know the basic professional printing terms; methods of construction and execution of various types of layouts. PRNV2.2. To take into account the needs of all categories of consumers when creating objects of visual communication. PRNV2.3 Orient in a variety of modern software and hardware tools, use knowledge and skills of working with professional computer support. PRNV2.4. Apply a complex artistic and design approach to create a holistic image of objects of visual communications. PRNV2.5. Solve functional tasks taking into account the properties of materials and features of structural constructions, apply the latest technologies in the creation of a modern final product in the design of visual communications. PRNV2.8. Apply the acquired knowledge and understanding of the subject field and the sphere of professional activity in practical situations, as well as during the presentation of finished projects. KOM1. Ability to communicate, including oral and written communication in Ukrainian and foreign languages (English, German, Italian, French, Spanish); KOM2. The ability to use a variety of methods, including modern information technologies, for effective communication at the professional and social levels. AiV 1. Ability to adapt to new situations and make appropriate decisions. AiV 2. The ability to realize the need for lifelong learning in order to deepen the acquired new professional knowledge. AiV 3. The ability to take responsibility for the work performed, to make decisions independently, to achieve the set goal in compliance with the requirements of professional ethics. AiV 4. Ability to popularize national and world cultural heritage, as well as to promote manifestations of patriotism, national self-awareness and ethno-cultural self-identification. AIV 5. Summary of the subject: In the process of studying the elective discipline "Design of printed publications" applicants for the first level of higher education - Bachelor of Environmental Design master the necessary amount of knowledge in the field of publishing design. In lectures students study historical aspects and current trends in the design of printed publications, study the typology and technical and design features of printed publications, the main ways of using compositional, graphic and typographic elements in the design of printed publications of various types. During practical classes students develop the ability to analyze finished printed products, determine the style of illustrated publications, compare the conceptual model and artistic system of finished publications, develop methods and organize their own creative project work. Studying the discipline will allow students to understand the role of the designer in the publishing process, learn the basic concepts and methods of working on the design of the publication, to master professional terminology.

Assessment methods and criteria: Current control: conducting a selective oral survey at lectures and practical classes, assessing activity in classes, checking practical tasks, evaluating the student's presentation-speech, participation in the discussion. The grade is the sum of the points scored by the student for the current work during the semester. Final control: test control, exam.

Practical complex work on the course project will allow to methodically study the main approaches and stages of project work - from analysis of finished publications to search for ideas, formulation of the concept of the publication, work on the sketch part of the project and general composition, work on illustrations, creation of original layout and preparation for publication. , the formation of advertising support. The course project sets one of the areas for diploma design.
